Larry & Marilyn Painter, the Sullivans

Friday morning the 5th.  No pictures, but Ben will have lots of stories.  He couldn't sleep last night so got up to go look for the goats. Saddled up the young horse Jim and let his Kate out.  Keyword here is "young horse."  As in not a lot of rides.  Seems the ol' cowboy was in a hurry in the wee hours and kicked his horse into a lope.  The horse took it as a cue to buck!

Keeper looking for Ben and the goats.

They arrived back at the barns around 8:30 this morning.  The goats are all worn out from their road trip.  Angel the guard dog is in good form and the reason we found them - that great guard dog bark.  Jim the horse seems quite content in the pasture and Ben hobbled to the car to drive over to Missouri to help Ed H work cattle today.

This has been a big week!  Dani and Rodney Sullivan stopped in to watch Rusty work - camera was charging....Dani rode Nasty - no pictures!  Ben's making a pretty fancy goat house for the winter....pictures soon.

And tonight September 4th we realized the goats were missing just at dusk!

There's about 2 sections that butt up together here!  We drove the perimeter.  Good thing Ben can see better than Leslie in the dark.  Then Ben drove and Leslie rode.  Ben alerted some of the neighbors.  Leslie, Nasty and Keeper managed to make it to the back of the 80 - a little moonlight helped - two ditches and streams to cross.  Anyway, Angel, the guard dog could be heard over to the northeast.  Sounded about a half section away!  So we came back to the house and put the neighborhood school bus kids on alert.  Ben has the horses corralled, ready to go first thing in the morning.

Ed H from MIssouri also called and wanted Ben to load up dogs and help him work cattle tomorrow.  It's going to be a full day!  Check back :>))

Larry and Marilyn Painter, Cleveland, Missouri

Ben had a big Labor Day.  Vern and Susan Thorp of Windrush Farms had their annual clinic this past weekend.  Larry and Marilyn Painter, Kuawarri Kennels were there.  Larry is one of the clinicians.  They hauled a dog back to their home just south of Kansas City for Ben.  He drove up Monday to pick her up.  Larry and Ben worked dogs a big part of the day.

On the way back, Ben dropped in on Ed Hamersley at Walker, Missouri.  They couldn't work too many dogs since most of Ed's are on the injured list this week - kicked and stomped by the momma cows.  Ed's got some mean cows, but he's got meaner dogs.  They'll go gather even crippled up.

Skyler Humble, Bluejacket, Oklahoma

Stoney Humble brought Skyler by with his young Australian Shepherd/Cattle Dog cross, Checkboard.  Skyler wants Checkers to behave as well as some of our dogs.

Leslie gave them their first lesson to go home to work on.  Some control exercises introducing 'sit" and "down."  They'll be back in a week - unless school activities interrupt - for their next training session.
